VALENTINE'S LIPS

While you most certainly don't need a special occasion as an excuse to don a bold lip, Valentine's Day is still a good one. Whether you're celebrating with a nice dinner, your girlfriends, or on the couch with pizza and wine, I say go for the bold with a lipstick of your choice. I've got you covered no matter how you plan on getting festive this weekend.

The Pizza-Proof Options // If you want to be able to actually enjoy your meal and wine, without having to sacrifice the full-on red lip, these matte lip creams are your little saviors. My favorites are the Hourglass Opaque Rouge in Riviera, an orange-based red, and the Sephora Cream Lip Stain in 01 Always Red, a true and universally flattering red. Either way, once applied these won't be going anywhere

The Smudge-Free Choice // Worried about kissable lips and transferring red all over your date? Try this Ilia Lip Conditioner in Bang Bang, a great option for a sheer wash of fruit-punch red, instead. The formula of this is amazing because it's a lipstick/balm hybrid, so you don't ever have to worry about the color cracking or becoming messy.

Hot for Pinks // The most complexion brightening of the bunch, especially when complemented by a swish of barely-there pink blush. I'm wearing Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet in La Diva in the photo above, and love the sheer-matte candy like appearance of the shade. I'm personally not a big fan of opaque, glossy hot pinks because they can end up looking like melted bubblegum or a bit too Barbie - but mattes are a modern way to wear the shade. Another favorite of mine is the Nars Satin Lip Pencil in Yu which is super easy to apply, and touch-up!
