It was a few years ago that the Maison Margiela Replica fragrances caught my eye. I was drawn particularly to Lazy Sunday Morning, a scent based on a memory of soft skin and bed linen in Florence circa 2003. I instantly had flashbacks to my lazy Sunday mornings in the Renaissance capital of Europe; staring up from the protection of cotton sheets at the ancient vaulted ceiling, the city air drifting through the open windows carrying with it the smell of freshly baked cookies from the bakery downstairs. It's so true that a certain memory usually carries with it a scent, or vice versa. Perhaps you're favorite scent is so for a reason - it's laced with nostalgia and evokes a particular feeling that only it can.

With names like Lazy Sunday Morning, Lipstick On, and By The Fireplace, it's evident that Maison Margeila fragrances were each created with a very specific memory in mind - a Replica of varying locations and periods. I've spoken before about how emotional scents can be, which is why I love them - you can collect them just as you do memories and moods.

Lipstick On is reminiscent of my grandmother's powder room - of soft rice powder, vanilla, and vintage Chanel lipsticks that smelled of iris. I'm quite fond of this scent for obvious reasons, it evokes intimate feelings of beauty rituals and smells of a sophisticated woman who knows what she wants. You know the chic woman we all gawk at walking by in her stilettos, carrying with her a certain smell - that's Lipstick On.

By The Fireplace evokes another memory that I'm quite familiar with. A scent based on an addictive chestnut accord, it's laced with clove, vanilla, orange flower, and pink pepper and truly smells like the warmth of a crackling fire on a frosty winter evening. It's the perfectly delicious accompaniment to your coziest cashmere sweater.
